In light of the recent announcement made by the Government, the 21st of June is a date everyone has in their diary. Whether you're in Loughborough student accommodation or Leicester student accommodation, I think it’s safe to say, we have all been dreaming about the day lockdown is lifted and we can start doing the things we love again. We've been counting down till the day we can go for a coffee with friends, drinks in the sun or have a shopping spree. Wondering what you can do in Loughborough and Leicester when everything is open again? Don’t worry we have you covered!
First up Loughborough. There’s loads to do in Loughborough when studying here. From free attractions to cheap pubs and places to eat, you’ll never be bored. Not to mention when you stay with us, we have plenty of things for you to do without even leaving your accommodation. Here’s our top 10 things to do as a student in Loughborough:
- Shop at Loughborough market
You can find a wide variety of stalls offering local produce, clothing, and home essentials. You can be sure to bag yourself a bargain at Loughborough market, if you are looking for a gift this might be the place for you. - Treat yourself at Chocolate alchemy
Love a sweet treat? Try something from chocolate alchemy, this shop/café offers amazing chocolates, cakes, and hot chocolates (all chocolate is handmade!) - Walk in Queen’s Park
As days are getting longer and the weather is becoming warmer, why not go for a walk and a picnic with friends at Queens park, offering beautiful scenery and guess what, it’s FREE - Have a pint in Organ Grinder
Missed the pub? Visit Organ Grinder, this lively pub offers a variety of beers and cinder. Local pub that appeals to everyone, catch up with friends and enjoy some time off from your studies. - Grab dinner at Toby Carvery

If you are a lover of gin, The Gin School will be perfect for you! You’ll experience walking around the distillery, see how your favourite drink is produced and you can even create your own! - Shopping centres
Visit Carillon Court shopping centre, wide range of shops from the fragrance shop to Thornton’s. - Who else can’t wait to be back on the dance floor?
Check out Echo’s night club, Probably the most popular club. Echo’s is in the centre of Loughborough Town. When open they usually host regular events and offers.
Moving onto Leicester.
Leicester has everything that a student could want when moving to a new city, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere but also experience history and beautiful views, check out what you can do when living here:
- Visit Caddyshackers
Perfect to go with a group of friends or even a first date, Caddyshackers has an 18-hole golf course for you and your friends to enjoy, have a few cheeky cocktails and even grab a pizza. - Abbey Park
Take a walk around Abbey Park or relax by the river. If you are looking for something a bit more then you can stay on the east side of the river, you can hire boats, such as rowing boats and peddle boats and enjoy the wildlife around you. - Highcross shopping centre
The biggest shopping complex in Leicester, you’ll be sure to find all your favourite shops, if you fancy something to eat or a coffee no need to leave the shopping centre as Highcross offers plenty of restaurants and cafes for you to enjoy. There is even a cinema! - Leicester City Market
Previously voted Britain’s best market, you’ll be sure to find a bargain. If you are looking for food, flowers, cards and clothes then this will be perfect for you. If you fancy a coffee or a quick bite to eat you can stop off at one of the many cafes. Very affordable and won’t break the bank! - Leicester outdoor pursuits centre
This outdoor activity centre will keep you busy for the whole day, offering kayaking, high ropes, abseiling, climbing towers, air rifle shooting, fencing, and canoeing. Great place for you and your flat mates to and get to know each other better and have a top day out. - Leicester museum and art gallery
If you love exploring museums then you definitely need to check this out, not far from the town centre. Containing displays of science, history, and art, both international and local. - Bradgate park
If you and your friends are looking for some time in the outdoors you must visit Bradgate park, why not stop off for a coffee on your way, perfect if you’re looking to get 10k steps in. - Escapologic Leicester
You and a group of friends will have one hour to escape the room – choose from different rooms and escape. You can even split up into different groups/rooms and have a competition on who can escape faster! - Leicester simulations
If you love gaming this will be right up your street, offering a variety of different simulated racing games for you to enjoy in the heart of Leicester, you can race by yourself or bring a friend along to challenge. - Love dancing until the early morning? You should go to Republic
Split into three rooms each playing different styles of music there will be something everyone enjoys, pre-lockdown they hosted student nights on Mondays, making this cheaper and hopefully this will be continued post-covid!
